Michelle C. Chatman, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist, community ritualist, vocalist, educator, and an initiated devotee in the Orisha/Yoruba spiritual tradition of West Africa. She is an Associate Professor at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), where she also directs the Mindful and Courageous Action (MICA) Lab and Violence Prevention & Community Wellness Program. She is an alumnus of the RWJF Interdiscplinary Research Leaders Program and current and a Culture of Health Racial Healing Fellow. Her research focuses on liberatory pedagogy, contemplative practices, and Black family well-being. Dr. Chatman is the Chief Dreamer of The GAWD Movement which amplifies freedom, fulfillment, and joy for high-achieving, mid-journey Black women.
