Rigging History explores the significance of Black men’s labor in the production of Washington, D.C., as a global tourist attraction through the experiences of the rigging crew that worked at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History from 1975-2000. We will tell the story of the NMAH Rigging Crew (also known as “The Skull Crew”) through stories, photos, and a series of pre-recorded interviews with surviving members. The mini-doc screening will be followed by a panel discussion on the importance of local labor in our global city and the future of museums and public spaces for intellectual engagement and social connection. We will be joined by Special Guest, Mr. Lonnie G. Bunch, III, Secretary of The Smithsonian Institution. Panelists include Mr. Dominic Moulden, Monica O. Montgomery, and 2021 Humanitini Curator, Dr. Michelle C. Chatman.
